2005 BMW F650 GS Dakar

BMW F650 GS Dakar - single-minded toughness
The F650 GS is a reliable and durable motorcycle because it features sublime simplicity coupled with uncompromising build quality. BMW had little choice really. It choose the Paris-Dakar Rally as its proving ground, and to achieve success - which it did - the little single-cylinder machine had to be as easy to ride as possible and tougher than 'old boots'.
The standard F650 GS model exhibits all the best qualities invoked by the original design and concept. Understandably though, the F650 GS Dakar version is a little different. BMW has incorporated minor modifications so that the bike can be used for extreme tasks and tough sporting events that demand the kind of durability shown by the original rally machine. Both are used on BMW's Off-Road Skills course.
The basic specification of the two models is identical. The Dakar model differs only in those areas that become vital when negotiating severe terrain, hostile environments and climatic extremes.
F650 GS Dakar - the differences
The F650 GS Dakar special retails at £5,510 (on-the-road) and employs extended 210mm (front and rear) suspension travel - which is 40mm longer than on the standard F650 GS. The seat height of the Dakar model is 870mm (instead of 780mm); the front wheel is now two inches larger at 21 inches; enduro tyres are standard; the front mudguard has been slightly extended; hand protectors have been fitted, and the screen is marginally higher. The choice of options and accessories is the same as for the F650 GS.
The F650 GS Dakar model is exclusively available in Blue metallic/White Aluminium matte metallic.
Powerful braking - ABS
No other motorcycle manufacturer offers ABS as an option on as many models as BMW Motorrad. ABS is the safest way of braking on the road, under all conditions. It is a leveller for braking for riders of all experience.
ABS is an anti-lock braking system, which gives riders greater braking capacity. Switchable ABS (that can be turned off when riding off-road) is available as an option on the F650 GS Dakar for only £360.
