On Sunday 17th July 2005 Cumbria Constabulary are holding a Road safety
event at Carlisle Racecourse. The event is geared towards Road Safety and
Casualty Reduction and is aimed at motorcyclists and young car drivers. The
force has a big input with 'Bikesafe', which is a National Police initiative
to reduce casualties amongst motorcyclists. The force would also like to
include car drivers in road safety initiatives aimed at reducing casualties.
This year's inaugural event is being held at Carlisle Racecourse, which has
excellent facilities both outdoors and indoors and has ample parking and is
easily accessible from all parts of Cumbria. If successful it is anticipated
that this will become an annual event. The event will take place between
10am and 5pm and all proceeds raised on the day are for charity, which on
this occasion will be for the Cumbria Air Ambulance.

and TT winner John McGuinness.
Alistair Flanagan commented "BSB is a good platform to support road safety;
be it on 2 or in 4 wheels. The team was approached by Cumbria police and
asked to support this event. I was only too pleased to offer our services
for this event. It's important for people to understand the dangers on our
roads today. We want to make sure that when people leave the race meeting
that they arrive home safe and not to think they can take chances and try to
emulate what they have seen on the track."
Admission on the day will be £2 per adult and £1 for children. No
unaccompanied children allowed under the age of 16 years. Programmes will be
available on the day for £1 and will include an entry form for a draw to win
a Mini Experience Track Day at Croft. There will also be a raffle with
prizes including a VIP Day at Carlisle Races, a Track Day at Donnington Park
and a track day at Three Sisters race track in a single seater.
