Northpoint Honda Racing have been granted the only wildcard ride at the
British round of the World Superbike Series at Silverstone Circuit,
Northamptonshire next weekend the 29th May. The two Metzeler mounted riders
20-year-old, Peterborough based Craig Jones and 19-year-old, Coventry based
Cal Crutchlow have been allocated an entry to ride amongst the best
Supersport riders in the World.
Jones who currently leads the British Supersport series and Crutchlow who is
currently lying in 5th place overall have made a dramatic impact on the
British Supersport scene and their results to date prove that. With four
podiums between them from the five races and adding to that extremely
consistent results in the other races they are certainly worthy of putting
their skills and knowledge to the test with the best.
Jones is looking forward the prospect of mixing with the World Scene saying
'It's a great opportunity for the team and I to have the chance to run at
Silverstone. The World Supersport Championship is highly regarded and is one
of the toughest to compete in, I'll be working hard and aiming to get a good
strong result at the end of it. It also allows us to get some good settings
and track time for the British Superbike round that will be held there later in the year.'
Backing up his comments Crutchlow said 'I'm really looking forward to the
experience as it will be the first time that I have competed in a Supersport
race at World level. It's certainly not going to be an easy task but I'm
prepared for the challenge, I'm keen to see how we fair up against them and
hoping for some confident results.'
Team Principle Gary Ekerold is also excited about the prospect of competing
at Silverstone saying 'We are very fortunate to have been granted entries
for Craig and Cal to compete as wildcards in the Supersport race, it's a
fantastic chance for us to prove our worth in the World Paddock. It's a huge
task for the whole team but one that we will certainly be prepared for and
it gives our sponsors the opportunity to see us compete at World Level.'
World Supersport Practice is Friday 27th May, Qualifying on Saturday 28th
May and Race Day is Sunday 29th May. For more details see
