Brit hero, and reigning World Champion, James Toseland will be leading the British challenge, along with Chris Walker on his PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse. Both will be hoping to impress the fans and make the most of strong support on home soil. Xerox Ducati rider Toseland will be particularly keen to find the form and raw speed that saw him race away with last year's world title.
Looking ahead to his first UK race as World Champion, Toseland commented: I'm really looking forward to every round from now on, but particularly Silverstone! All I can do is apologise to the British fans for my start to the season. For Silverstone and the home crowd I just want to prove exactly why I've got the number 1 on the bike. I didn't buy it, it was earned last year and I just want to prove that we can keep it, especially as it's my first time back for a race in the UK since winning the title. "Silverstone is one of the fastest circuits in the world and although we had a bad weekend there last year - due to circumstances - there is no reason why we can't go well this time."
Toseland continued: I love the Silverstone track, everything about it. It's great to go home and race in front of the home crowd. We've got a lot of support, which is brilliant. I turned things round at Monza - I just need to keep it going for Silverstone.
"I'm not the only Brit out there of course. Chris Walker is doing an excellent job and he'll be one to watch as well." With Silverstone hosting round five of the Championship the title will be wide open, and there's everything to play for as the Brits take on championship contenders from around the world, including Troy Corser (Australia), Régis Laconi (France), Frankie Chili (Italy) and the 'Samurai of Slide', Noriyuki Haga (Japan).
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, commented: "The Corona Extra Superbike World Championship is one of our biggest events of the season and is hugely popular with the fans. The racing is breathtaking and we're privileged to welcome so many of the world's top riders and teams to Silverstone.
"There will, no doubt, be considerable support for the British riders, and it'll be a great opportunity for the fans to cheer on James Toseland in his first race on home soil as reigning World Champion. We're looking forward to a fantastic weekend of two-wheeled motorsport, and an action-packed few days for all the family."
