Dougie Lampkin returned to the podium when he took third place during the second and final day of the Japanese Grand Prix held earlier today. Lampkin briefly led the trial towards the end of the first lap, but dropped back to third place as the punch card were swapped after he fived the last section. With yesterday's winner Bou only managing seventh position today, Dougie now moves back to second in the overall standings after four out of ten rounds.

Minor alterations were made to the course overnight, whilst the early sections had been eased in a couple of places, the first and final hazards were much more difficult with the 'cheat' lines now having been closed. Although Raga and Cabestany were the initial leaders, Lampkin was right in the mix with just four marks dropped until he failed at the ornate waterfall in section nine.

? However a fantastic clean on the slippery boulders in section thirteen brought Dougie right back into the frame, as he over took both Raga and Cabestany with this one outstanding ride. His advantage was short lived as the Spanish duo turned the tables on Lampkin, as they both went clean at the final hazard, whilst he recorded his second maximum of the day.

Although Lampkin produced a consistent performance during the second lap, he could not match the level of his two closest rivals, and eventually had to settled for third position.

"It feels good to be back on the podium again, as yesterday was a major disappointment after the results of the first three rounds. Whilst I am happy to have finished third today, I have to admit that I had no answer to either Raga or Cabestany on the second lap. I am riding better than last year, but so are quite a few other riders, so it is very tough even to make in on to the podium."

"All I can continue to do is to fight for the victory at each round and hopefully begin to close the gap on Raga. That isn't going to be easy, but no championship fight ever is."

    Championship current standings:

  1. 1: Raga - 108
  2. 2: Lampkin - 90
  3. 3: Bou - 87
  4. 4: Cabestany - 82
  5. 5: Fujinami - 77
  6. Dougie Lampkin's next event: 18/06/06 Sunday -- La Nucía (Alicante), Spain) - Rnd 4 Spanish Outdoor Chp.
