Dougie Lampkin's torrid indoor campaign dropped to its lowest level last night when he finished in seventh place at the latest round held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Disaster struck in the very first section as Lampkin crashed heavily as his bike spun on the wet hazard caused by the leaking arena roof. Dougie was lucky to escape injury, but his bike faired far worse and was totally wrecked as it smashed it way down the centre of the large tube.
The night was to become worse, as Lampkin had no other option than to switch to his spare bike, which had unfortunately developed a serious misfire. Dougie was forced to ride the next two sections on his second bike whilst his mechanics tried to get his first machine back in some kind of rideable shape. With two more maximums added to his total Lampkin switched bikes once again, although his first bike was far from in perfect order and was still missing a front mudguard and brace, to finish the lap.
"If someone could have granted me three wishes I would have used all of them in one go to have got the ground to open up and to have got me out of there. I have lived through some bad situations, but that ranks up there with as being one of the worst ever. The series of events that unfolded were incredible, and should not have happened for a number of reasons."
"I am hoping that the last two indoor rounds will bring better things and will point me in the right direction for the start of the outdoor series."
At the head of the field Raga was doing the winning once again, and in doing so the Gas Gas rider claimed his fourth successive indoor crown with still two rounds remaining. Fujinami helped Raga wrap up the title by taking second place and demoting Fajardo to the lower tier of the rostrum. Bou narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final to finish in front of an off form Cabestany.
