After a glorious weekend last time out at Ingliston in Scotland, the MotoGB
British Supermotard Championship moved on to the Pembrey circuit in South
Wales for racing on the Bank Holiday Monday, in what was a make or break
meeting for the SR Off-Road Aprilia team.
Sam Warren's first outing during qualifying went well and despite a few
minor problems with his Aprilia SXV he easily recorded the quickest time of
the session ahead of rivals Ady Smith, Andy Mitchell and Christian Iddon.
Team boss Mick Spencer commented "Sam is showing great determination and
fighting spirit at this fantastic Pembrey circuit."
Race one saw a first corner pile up, with Warren keeping out of trouble and
maintaining the lead from start to finish to claim what can only be called
an extremely mature ride to victory, winning by a clear 2.822 seconds from
Smith.
Race two saw a three way battle for the lead this time comprising of Warren,
Iddon and Mitchell. Unfortunately, a puncture on lap six denied Warren the
chance of sewing up the SM1 class MotoGB title with one further round to go,
this left Aprilia honours in the hands of Iddon though an on-form Mitchell
fended Iddon off to claim the win.
Team boss Mick Spencer commented "Sam rode very well in the early laps of
the race, but unfortunately Lady Luck once again deserted us".
The Superfinal saw a different story, Andy Mitchell shot into the lead,
pursued by Warren, Iddon and Smith, after five laps Smith retired with a
puncture, at the time Warren was in second place behind Mitchell but needed
to win to ensure he couldn't be beaten with a round to spare.
With teeth gritted and full of determination, Warren eased ahead for the win
and his and the SR Off-Road Aprilia teams entry into the record books with a
clear victory of 10.947 seconds from Mitchell to secure the overall MotoGB
British Supermotard Championship title.
Sam Warren, Mick Spencer and all the SR Off-Road Aprilia Team, would like to
say a big thank you to all the people who continue to support them and hence
made this achievement possible.
