Bill Wiggin MP, Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Motorcycling
Group is backing the industry's annual campaign and Ride to Work Day
and supports the industry's aims to 'mainstream' motorcycling.
Ride to Work Day highlights the social and environmental benefits of
riding to work on a bike, moped or scooter.
Ride 2 Work Day highlights that motorcycling:-
- Cuts congestion
- Cuts pollution
- Cuts journey times
- Is convenient and flexible
- Is cost-effective
The Parliamentary Group for Motorcycling is a well established
political group of MPs and Peers of all political allegiances that
aims to keep motorcycling on the political and public policy agenda.
The group, which counts among its former Chairs, the Cabinet Minister,
Hazel Blears MP are focusing on a range of issues which affect
motorcycling, including allowing bikes to use bus lanes.
The group is made up of about 70 members from both houses and includes
Lembit Opik MP, Steven Pound MP, Lord Jopling and Lord Falkland,
Bill Wiggin MP said, " Ride to Work Day promotes the diversity of
motorcycling and the many benefits associated with riding on a bike or
scooter, not least the congestion busting and journey time-reducing
potential of motorcycling in congested urban areas.
"It is important that we keep motorcycling on the political agenda as
they have an important role to play in the transport system and can
offer some practical solutions as well as being a cost-effective and
fun way to travel"
