Dougie Lampkin returned to some kind of form when he netted fifth place at the penultimate round of the World indoor series held in Argentina late last night. Recovering from the disaster he experienced in Brazil just seven days earlier, Lampkin was unlucky not to qualify for the final and to earn a rostrum finish. However Dougie was quick to acknowledge that he was totally responsible for the mistakes that ultimately prevented him recording a result in the higher order.
"Whilst tonight was a massive improvement in many ways when you compare it to last weekend, it is still a big disappointment. I rode a lot more confidently and was good in the majority of sections, however two mistakes have stopped me making it through to the final. There is absolutely no margin for error amongst this group of riders at the moment and once again I have paid the price."
"The five in section two was really annoying as I had cleaned the most difficult part of the hazard, but somehow managed to slip off the concrete motorway barrier right near the end of the section. The other mistake was on the high jump, which has become a bogey for me recently, as you simply can not afford to give away three marks on a section where everyone else is going clean."
"It has been a tough two weeks, and whilst I am not looking forward to the long journey back to Spain, it will be nice to get back to Europe and to get back into some kind of routine ahead of the outdoor World championship starting."
Out of the final last week, Cabestany bounced back in real style by first winning the heat by a clear margin, and then taking the win in the final ahead of a rejuvenated Bou. Fajardo completed the top three as his team mate and the newly crowned indoor champion Raga failed for the first time this season to finish on the podium, after he lost out on a time tie break to Bou. Lampkin finished fifth ahead of his team mate Fujinami.
