The super fast Snetterton circuit was bathed in sunshine as round 7 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship got underway. Today's two free practice sessions were full of action with Haslam clocking the fastest time in first practice and the 2nd fastest in the second. Lavilla was also lapping quickly, coming 3rd in both sessions.
This morning Haslam took an early lead with a time of 1:05.844. He held the top spot for much of practice with a succession of fast laps before Kiyonari took the lead pushing him into 2nd. However Haslam came back clocking a time of 1:05.081 on his 23rd lap to regain 1st place, where he finished the session. Lavilla finished 3rd fastest with a time of 1:05.619 set on his penultimate lap.
In a hot afternoon practice, the Airwaves Ducati riders topped the rankings early in the session before Lavilla tipped off his machine at Russells resulting in a red flag. Greg walked away unscathed and resumed practice on his spare Ducati 999F06 with 23 minutes of the session remaining. Kiyo was the first to break the 1:06 barrier quickly followed by Leon with a time of 1:04.940. Greg did enough to finish 3rd with a time of 1:05.237 and the session ended with Kiyo 1st, Haslam 2nd and Lavilla 3rd.
After practice Lavilla was unaffected by his fall, "I am ok, no damage done! I am disappointed I fell off as it has put us behind on what we planned. It meant I couldn't do as many laps as I wanted to on race rubber, so tomorrow we will have to do a race run and not work on qualifying as planned. It's a shame but I am no less confident now for qualifying or the race on Sunday, we will just have to work hard tonight and in the morning."
With a first and second place in practice Leon Haslam was happy with his performance. "Practice was good for us, I got two full race runs and averaged some really good times. We have completed loads of laps on race pace and I know there is a lot more to come, I am really confident for tomorrow."
Qualifying takes place at 2.45pm tomorrow, Saturday 17th June.
