Dougie Lampkin achieved another podium finish, when he took a well-earned third place in Mahon, Menorca late tonight. The small Spanish island was home to round eight of the scheduled twelve stop tour, and proved to be a happy hunting ground for Lampkin as he took a shock win in the heat ahead of the more favoured riders. Raga and Cabestany joined Dougie in the three man final.
"The final was a bit of an anti climax after winning the heat, but I can make no excuses, I simply had a shocker and was out of contention before the lap had even got properly under way. Four fives in the first four sections of the final, pretty much tells you the story. However I was far from happy when they fived me for jumping a gap in the third hazard, where apparently you were meant to drop in."
"Winning the heat was a real bonus and to be honest it was quite a shock. I rode well and punished the mistakes that all the other riders were making. Again it is a good result for me and the team, as it has been a difficult series to date."
"With the results we have been getting, I have now made my first goal at each round to make it into the final, after that anything else is a bonus. My confidence is much better and so is my physical condition and I think that this is now showing in my riding."
"Having moved ahead of Fujinami on points, my next task is to close in on Fajardo, with some more consistent results during the last third of the championship this is a possibility, although I know that it isn't going to be easy to do that."
A fifth win for Raga now puts him seventeen points clear at the top of the championship standings with just four rounds remaining. As has been the case for most of the series, Cabestany once again had to settle for second place, although he increased his advantage over Bou in the series, as the Beta rider once again failed to qualify for the final.
