Centurion Racing are delighted to announce their plans for the up-and-coming 2007 season. After an extremely successful year running 19-year-old Pete Spalding in the Supersport Cup Championship the team have signed a new rider to run alongside Spalding in 2007. Spalding has completely dominated the Cup Championship winning every race to date this season. The New Milton based rider has had some stunning results in the main Championship and was unlucky to miss out on an Overall Podium position at Croft Circuit.
18-year-old James 'Westy' Westmoreland will contend the 2007 Supersport Cup Championship with Centurion racing on-board Honda CBR-600's. Westy has had two very successful seasons in the British 125 Championship and is looking forward to his future with the Centurion Racing Team during 2007.
Spalding will move into the main Supersport Championship for 2007 after completing two years in the Cup. He is eager for the challenge commenting "It's been a brilliant season this year and I hope that I can make it a clean sweep at Brands next week. I am looking forward to having Westy as a team-mate as I think it will spur us both on. I get on well with him and sure there will be a friendly rivalry between us."
General Manager Paul Rees added "I'm delighted to welcome James to the Centurion Team and sure he will help us move and develop as a Team and I hope that we can help move and develop James forward as a rider, I have every confidence that will be the case."
The team will continue to be supported by Clive Padgett during 2007 and they will collect one of the 06 bikes at Brands Hatch next weekend from the Padgett's race team. Team Manager Gary Stubbington said "I've been watching Westy in the 125 class and he has certainly got the dedication and motivation to want to do well, which is important to us all at Centurion. We want to work closely with Westy and nurture him like we have done with Pete this year. We are extremely happy with Pete's results this season and very much looking forward to working with these two racers next year."
The youngster from Hull is over-the-moon about his new ride saying "I am so excited, I've never been given an opportunity like this to really prove myself, and I will ensure that I give everything I can next year. It's a nice feeling knowing that everything is sorted for next year with one round remaining of this season, it enables me to go there and just ride hard without any fears of pushing to hard. I can't wait to ride for Centurion, they are such a professional team and I know that they will help me with my career and push me in the right direction."
Centurion Racing will be running Pete Spalding at Brands Hatch next weekend 29th September - 1st October.
