BMW Ride to the beautiful Baltic States - May 25th 2006

    Discover the freedom of motorcycle travel and enjoy an exclusively European contrast of hundreds of years of history and 21st Century culture. World of BMW's latest tour takes riders through the beautiful Baltic States and surrounding cities on a 16-day trip this June.

    This magical part of the world, which includes Stockholm, Riga, Vilnius and Berlin, is steeped in history. Stockholm is one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world, where medieval streets contrast with modern glass skyscrapers. In Berlin, take time out to visit Checkpoint Charlie and the Brandenburg Gate and then enjoy relaxing by the Baltic Sea when the tour reaches Riga.

    The World of BMW tour to the Baltic States is a tour that combines riding with sightseeing. It departs from Newcastle on 22 June on an overnight ferry to Gothenburg. On arrival in the late afternoon, participants will have a short ride before settling into their accommodation in Boras for the first overnight stop.

    The third day's destination is Sweden. The group will ride through the picturesque Lakeland area to Stockholm for the night, where the group will have a free day to explore the following day before catching an overnight ferry to Estonia.

    Once in Estonia, the group will have the day to enjoy the day in the city of Tallinn and then stay at a four-star hotel. On the next day's ride the group will ride through rural Estonia towards Lake Peipsi to the night's stop at Tartu. On the seventh day, the group will ride south through Estonia and Latvia and then to Riga - the base for the next two nights.

    In Riga, participants can spend time absorbing the local culture and visit some of the tourist attractions or ride to the nearby Kurzeme Peninsular along the coastline. On day nine, the tour travels to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania where the old town and historical centre is one of the largest in Eastern Europe and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Participants will have another free day in this stunning city.

    On day 11, the tour will head south to Poland, to the region of Mazury, north of Warsaw to the town of Mikolajki. From here, the tour travels across the lakes region to Torun. On day 13, the tour will ride to Berlin where it will stay for two nights. The city is a centre of history. Participants can visit the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate or just wander around this fascinating city. On day 15, the tour meets the overnight ferry to Harwich.

    The 16-day World of BMW Baltic States tour will take place from 22 June to 7 July 2006. Prices start at 1,350 per solo rider.
