Dougie Lampkin's hopes of another podium finish, following his third place in Menorca last weekend, were put to an end when he could only manage a disappointing fifth place in Lisbon, Portugal late last night. In terms of the overall championship it was a mixed night. With Dougie making some ground on catching Fajardo in the standings, after the young Spanish rider finished in a lowly sixth spot, but on the other hand Lampkin now has his team mate Fujinami breathing down his neck, after his Japanese counterpart scored a solid third position on the night.

"The difference between a good result and a bad result is so small, any kind of mistake in amongst this kind of competition and your night is almost over before it has even begun. My goal was clear, it was to make it through to the final again and guarantee myself a place on the podium, having not managed to achieve that I am far from happy."

"With my recent results I came here feeling pretty confident and I thought that if I rode well then I could certainly qualify for the final at least. "

"Our schedule is non stop at the moment, which is good in some ways as there is no time to dwell on what has just happened. We have got three more days of testing next week before we fly off to Brazil and Argentina for the next two rounds. Let's just hope that I can get back on form out there and can come back with a smile on my face, otherwise it is going to seem like a long and hard trip if I don't get the results that I so desperately want."

Albert Cabestany kept his slim title chance alive when he recorded his second victory of the series in Portugal. Championship leader Raga was defeated by two marks to see his standings advantage cut to fifteen points with just three rounds remaining, meaning that only a disaster can really prevent him from lifting a fourth successive indoor crown. Fujinami completed the podium with his second top three finish of the 2006 campaign.
