The Motogiro d'Italia, that from the 20th to the 24th May 2007 will disembark on Sicilian soil, offers an itinerary rich with allusions to both the tourism and the racing passion for the two wheels.
This year the event will dedicate itself not only to the traditional passionate competition, but also to the discovery of a territory of extraordinary beauty, that is South East Sicily.
Departure will be from the golden beaches of Sciacca and then on to exploring the best the island has to offer. It will be a "theme" journey the ocean, the art and the nature: the most renowned seaside locations, the splendour of the Sicilian Baroque, the powerful nature of the Etna, the racing tracks.
On the 20th May the riders will cover a route that runs through the inside of the island and will reach, amongst other locations, Cattolica Eraclea, Chiusa Sclafani, Sambuca di Sicilia, then returning to Sciacca. The first day of the Motogiro will also have a chapter at the Valle dei Templi Circuit. The second Leg (21st May) previews a passage through Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Pergusa (Circuit), Piazza Armerina, Lentini, Brucoli. On the 22nd May, departure will be from Brucoli towards the Siracusa Circuit then following on to reach Noto, Modica, Ragusa Ibla, la Necropoli di Pantalica and finally returning ti Brucoli. The forth leg (23rd May) is characterised by a splendid tour of the Etna exploring Catania, Mascalucia, Zafferana Etnea, Acireale, Acitrezza, Carlentini arriving once again at Brucoli. On the 24th May, the fifith and last Leg will travel through Grammichele, Caltagirone, Gela, Palma di Montechiaro, Porto Empedocle, with a 'gran finale' at Sciacca.
Extra attention will be dedicated to the enogastronomy, with moments to relax and savour the local products. Each day, at the leg arrivals' in Sciacca and Brucoli as well as in other scenic locations a long the route, such as Agrigento, Chiusa Sclafani, Piazza Armerina, Caltagirone, Zafferana and Ragusa Ibla tastings of the best Sicilian gastronomy and specialities.
For the seventh consecutive time, the event is organized by Dream Engine and is supported by the main sponsor Ducati Motor that, since 2001, has chosen to associate its name to an event that brings back the glorious years of Italian motorcycling. Hundreds of bikes, old and new, the most important foreign and Italian collectors, numerous enthusiasts who will contribute to recreating the atmosphere, the style and the spirit of the original race, whilst also being able to enjoy Sicily, its territory and its products. Once more in 2007, to keep alive the bond with history, the champions of the 1950's Maoggi and Venturi will be guests of honour and it will be possible to watch a parade of the best of Italian motorcycle production.
The Motogiro d'Italia 2007 relies on the support of Ducati Motor the events main sponsor. The event is also made possible thanks to the support of: Presidenza Regione Siciliana, Motociclismo dEpoca, Assessorato Regionale al Turismo Regione Siciliana, Assessorato Regionale allAgricoltura e Foreste Regione Siciliana, Comune di Sciacca, Comune di Augusta. For the organization of the event, under the aegis of the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana, Dream Engine relies on the support of the Motoclub Terni L. Liberati and the Auto Moto Club Viterbo. Participants in the Tourist Class are accompanied by the Curve&Tornanti team made up of Federal FMI safe riding instructors.
For the prize giving dinner, participants will be guests of the Presidenza della Regione Siciliana during which the overall winner of the Vintage Class will be awarded a special Motogiro 2007 Ducati.
The Motogiro is open to motorcycles authorized for road use of all marques and is divided into three classes: Vintage Racing Class (motorbikes manufactured prior to 1957 with a maximum cc of 175), Taglioni Memorial Class (motorbikes manufactured between 1968 and 1978 with a minimum of 350 cc) and Touring Class (recent motorbikes, non-competitive participation).
Registrations close on the 19th of April, or when all available places have been filled.
