Ducati MS4R - 2005

With its fascinatingly essential lines, the Monster S4R exudes power from ever pore. Its exclusive colour schemes, twin exhausts on one side of the tail and highly sophisticated suspension make the Monster S4R the perfect bike for demanding sports riders. The S4R's mighty Desmoquattro engine has also been specially chosen to satisfy the needs of this type of rider and makes the S4R far more than just another high performance naked. Dominating features remain those that have made the Monster family such a hit. Body parts reduced to a minimum reveal the engine and trellis frame in all their glory. On the S4R the exposed components are greater in number and higher in quality, coming directly from the world of racing. Styling is uncompromising, as is handling which differs from that of the other Monsters. The total absence of all fairings reveals and highlights the presence of a whole series of special components like the superbike series engine with its unique curved radiator. You simply cannot miss the two exhaust silencers aligned at the right of the tail, the single-sided aluminium swing arm and numerous parts made from carbon fibre. The S4R's variable section aluminium handlebars add an exclusive touch. Then there is the race inspired cockpit fairing that protects a set of full function indicators and warning lights. The colour schemes of the 2005 S4R have been inspired by the tremendous success of the previous blue colour scheme with longitudinal white stripe. 2005 models are therefore available not only in classic single colour black but also in the popular blue with white stripe and in two new colours, Ducati red and black, both with white stripes.


The round section tubular trellis frame is more than capable of withstanding the forces developed by the exuberant engine. The Monster S4R is designed to give unbeatable satisfaction even on the race track, so brakes and suspension have to be the best. Their characteristics are therefore not unlike those fitted to Ducati's top of the range superbikes. The S4R features a high suspension setup to permit near-the-limit sports riding with incredible lean angles. The suspension chosen for the job are the very best production units available, a Showa 43 mm upside down fork with TiN coated stanchions for perfect road surface reaction and precision sliding action. Designed for demanding and expert riders, this fork provides adjustments for all damping functions to allow riders to find the perfect balance between front and rear end suspension action. The Showa rear monoshock provides adjustments for spring preload, compression and rebound and even length. Owners can therefore achieve the perfect suspension setup and even adjust the height of the rear end.


The S4R's twin cylinder engine needs no introduction. It is a Desmoquattro, one of the same family of engines that power the Ducati superbikes dominating the world racing scene. To allow it to develop all the power needed to propel such an aggressive machine without limiting use to the track alone, this four valve desmodromic engine has been specially tuned to give more torque than ever. The result is a thoroughbred naked sports machine developing 117 HP at 8,750 rpm and 10.1 kgm of torque at 7,000 rpm as measured on the test bench. Specifications like these place the Monster S4R at the top of its class for performance, to say nothing of style and meanness.
