Despite its essential appearance the 1000 DS' frame is technically sophisticated enough to guarantee a level of rigidity that few other solutions can equal. With all this plus beautifully simple mechanics and easy maintenance, what more could you want? The 2005 Supersport 1000 DS will only be available fully faired. The braking system is all Brembo Serie Oro, and comprises two 320 millimetre disks at the front and a single 245 millimetre disk at the rear. This top of the range combination delivers plenty of braking power with perfect "feel" under all riding conditions.
The system also features steel braided brake hoses that resist deformation under use and ensure far more instant braking response than the conventional rubber hoses used on other motorcycles. Standard equipment also includes a totally electronic lightweight instrument panel and engine immobilizer.

The Supersport 1000 DS is available in red, yellow and metallic dark grey (the last with bright red wheels) and comes equipped with Marchesini five spoke wheels. Its streamlined tail, moulded tank and full fairing are not only striking features, but also make the 1000 DS perfect for the race track as well as twisty roads. The 1000 DS is designed to proudly show its traditional Ducati features, including its high strength steel tube trellis frame and the world's most famous 90 degree twin cylinder engine. The 1000 DS is simply fascinating to look at, simple yet effective, and made to handle like an extension of the rider's body.
The bike incorporates a host of imposing components too, in particular a suspension system that will certainly not go unnoticed by motorcycle enthusiasts. Behind the compact cockpit fairing, there is an electronic instrument panel with two analog instruments incorporating two digital displays for total and trip mileage, oil temperature and clock. A function indicator in the middle of the instrument panel shows when the engine immobilizer is switched on to prevent engine start-up without the dedicated ignition key.
The tubular steel trellis frame of the Supersport range represents the best frame technology available today. Despite its light weight this frame guarantees excellent structural rigidity, with the looks of a prestigious and unique work of art into the bargain. An aluminium alloy swing arm enhances the frame's overall appearance and contributes to keeping weight down and improving rigidity. It is damped by a fully adjustable Ohlins monoshock that even allows you to vary overall length to raise or lower seat height irrespective of preload setting. This top quality shock absorber is extremely sensitive and offers an infinite range of personal suspension adjustments. The same level of personalisation is also provided by the fully adjustable Showa upside down 43 millimetre front fork.
Just like everything else about this exceptional bike, the engine is the maximum expression of two valve desmodromic engine technology. There is nothing old fashioned about it. This ultra-modern, twin cylinder, twin spark, 992 cc power unit even features pressed aluminium clutch plate and disks. The 1000 DS is equipped with the biggest engine of all Supersport twins to ensure an exceptional level of performance. 95 HP at 7,750 rpm and 9.7 Kgm of torque at 5,750 rpm are figures that leave no doubt about the sort of performance you can expect from a bike as slender and lightweight as the Supersport. And more important still, power is evenly distributed right across the engine speed range even at low revs thanks to the advanced electronic fuel injection system.
