Smooth Power

Smooth power at your command. The DR125SM’s air-cooled, 4-stroke 124cm3 engine design makes use of advanced technology and well-proven features to deliver responsive power along with superb economy and durability for years of enjoyable ownership.

The compact, lightweight power-plant uses aluminum-alloy cylinder head, head cover and cylinder (with cast-iron sleeve); highly efficient flat-type piston and pentroof combustion chamber; and silent-type cam chain and automatic cam-chain adjuster.

Conrod big-end needle-roller bearing and crankshaft ball bearings reduce mechanical losses. SJCS (Suzuki Jet Cooling System) jets oil at high speeds to the piston underside and cylinder wall for better durability and less oil consumption. A single-shaft counterbalancer with damping mechanism keeps the engine running smooth for comfortable rides. Engine power is transmitted with a well-proven, smooth-shifting 5-
speed gear box.

Advanced fuel Injection and engine control

A simple, compact and efficient DCP-FI (Discharge Pump Fuel Injection) design contributes to better fuel economy, cleaner emissions and a user-friendly power character. Fuel injection and ignition timing are precisely controlled by signals from a 10-pulse multi-tipped crank sensor and other sensors. An ISC (Idling Speed Control) mechanism adjusts intake airflow volume to maintain proper idling rpm at all times, and also performs fast-idling during cold starts. The clean-running DR125SM engine meets the stringent Euro 3 emissions regulations with a catalyzer and air/fuel ratio control by the ECM (Engine Control Module) based on an exhaust-pipe O2 sensor feedback.

Functional, stylish electrical design

The electrifying DR125SM riding action is supported by an ECU using a 16-bit ROM microcomputer. The action starts easily with an electric starter. A bright 35/35-watt high/low beam halogen multireflector headlight shines your way. A 21/5-watt rear combination lights help keep you seen from the rear. The 10-watt front and rear turn signals combining clear outer lens with amber inner lens are both stylish and highly visible. The easy-to-read instrument panel contains an analog speedometer, an odometer and tripmeter, and various indicator lamps, in a distinctly modern-looking layout.

Sporty Chassis

The DR125SM chassis offers an exquisite combination of compact, user-friendly convenience and the distinctive “supermotard” riding feel. The functional front forks and rear shock fitted on a rigid steelpipe diamond frame each carry spoked wheels featuring RK Excel aluminum rims. 17-inch Pirelli tyres, offering a fine balance between road grip and long wear, are tailored for agile street manoeuvres and the right supermotard image. Front 250mm- and rear 220mm-disc brakes, each with a Nissin caliper, provide ample stopping power. Convenience features include a locking tool box and fuel-tank cap, grab bars for the corider and a helmet holder. A rear carrier is optionally available.

Unmistakable Looks

Nobody will mistake the DR125SM for anything other than a “supermotard”-type machine; at the same time, nobody will mistake the DR125SM for any other supermotard bike. The distinctive design, composed of wide, expressive surfaces accentuated with edgy lines, opens a new chapter on supermotard bodywork styling. The fuel-tank upper surface is almost completely covered for a classy form. The tank cover is also extended at the bottom for a radiator-shroud-like image. Fender covers add robustness to the front face. The muffler is purposefully swept up along the frame cover/rear fender, above which is a sporty, two-tone flat-shaped off-road-type seat. Neat bodywork cut-outs and slits on the tank, frame covers and headlight-inspired from traditional Japanese “oni” demon fangs and horns motifs - add the finishing touches to the DR125SM’s
strong styling character.
