Gilera, always the sportiest brand in
the Piaggio family, presents three new off-road models
conceived for pure fun for Spring 2011. Gilera SMT,
Gilera SMT Racing and Gilera RCR are the two-ringed
brand's entry level models into the motard and off-road
worlds. Created for the spirited young rider, the
new 50cc bikes from Gilera exceed all expectations
in terms of looks, technology and sporty performance.
Gilera, which has always stood for passion, sports
and adventure, has fused riding pleasure and class-beating
performance in these three all-new 50 cc models: Gilera
SMT, Gilera SMT Racing and Gilera RCR represent the
best that their categories have to offer in terms
of both equipment and trim. Unrivalled in the 50 cc
class, these new Gileras are the pure expression of
off-roading riding fun and truly interpret the values
of the historic brand.
Gilera's new SMT, SMT Racing and RCR 50 cc models
stand apart from the competition with class-beating
technical and styling details: with eye-catching graphics
on sleek fairings, attractively designed lights and
a comfortable saddle - all of which details that make
these new Gileras outstanding examples of style.
Gilera SMT and Gilera RCR, respectively the two-ringed
brand's supermotard and enduro models, boast premium
features. These include the high power headlight with
integrated race number panel and LED taillight, which
give the bikes the stylish, high-tech looks of a true
pro machine. Then there is the multifunctional digital
instrument panel: all the information you need at
your fingertips in a compact, lightweight unit.
The robust structure of the double cradle high strength
steel gives these two Gilera models outstanding agility
and strength.
The new Gilera SMT Racing also stands out for its
superlative technical features. The new Racing boasts
top quality suspension components at the front and
rear, as you would expect from a Gilera product. At
the front is a 41 mm straight fork with 195 mm of
wheel travel. The rear shock absorber works in conjunction
with a generously sized but feather-light aluminium
double sided swingarm, which complements the agility
of the superb chassis layout.
The entire brake system of these brand new Gilera
models is oversized: with a 260 mm disc at the front
and a 220 mm disc at the rear for maximum safety in
all situations.
The most significant difference between the SMT and
RCR models and the SMT Racing is the wheel type. While
the Gilera RCR 50 enduro is fitted with a 21”
front wheel and an 18” rear wheel, shod with
off-road tyres, the Gilera SMT and Gilera SMT Racing
supermotards are equipped with 17” street wheels
front and rear fitted with street tyres.
All three 50 cc Gilera off-road models are powered
by a zesty water cooled 50 cc 2-stroke engine giving
the SMT, SMT Racing and RCR class beating performance,
with maximum torque already available at low engine
speeds. Compliant with current emissions regulations
(Euro2), the 50 cc 2 stroke unit makes these bikes
fun to ride with gusto and gives them genuine pro
performance. A lightweight, reliable engine in a fun,
agile and versatile bike.
