2012 KTM 690 Duke

2012 KTM 690 Duke

More than 90% of new components make the 690 Duke significantly better for real world riding in 2012. More durable and not the least more affordable - in cost of acquisition as well as ownership - no Duke has ever been this technically mature or have been so comfortable.

But most of all, the 2012 690 Duke is one thing – an unmistakable original and more dynamic than ever. With its legendary agility on twisty backroads and its new, previously unknown versatility, it masters a balancing act that seemed lost to this world of the modern motorcycle with all its exhaustively developed specialists.

A true do-it-all bike, an affordable bike, reduced in the best sense of the word, extremely practical but still all about riding fun – something that can be seen at the first glance.

Individual riding enjoyment, more versatile than ever, the secret ingredient to the Duke’s fresh flavour is a new cylinder head with dual ignition and individual, selective mappings for each plug. The result is the best Duke LC4 engine ever: power is increased to a whopping 70hp, a mountain of torque is on tap, as well as precise throttle response and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) on the level of multi-cylinder engines.

On the chassis side, a new trellis frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel sections manages to be both extremely rigid and super-light. The Duke also receives a state-of-the-art ABS system in the form of the Bosch 9M+ to reduce stopping distances with consistent precision and stability in every situation.

Another of the many new features to expand the Duke as a true do-it-all bike without losing its hunger for corners, the rider and pillion are now seated a full 30mm lower - and more comfortably - than the previous model thanks to a re-designed saddle.

So whether it’s cutting through busy streets or hitting your favourite twisty route, ‘being’ single can be wonderfully addictive.
