Yukio Kagayama

    Yukio is one of the toughest racers on the planet. A crash in the British Superbike Championship in 2003 at Cadwell Park didn’t just hurt him badly, but came within a whisker of taking his life. Yet ‘Yuki’ came back in less than a year to finish 3rd in the ’04 series, while riding still very much disabled. In fact, you wouldn’t believe what was still wrong with the poor boy under his leathers. Highlight of 2004 was winning at Cadwell and doing a burnout in front of the barrier close to where he crashed. That was style! In spite of all his courage, Yuki still manages to be one of the funniest and light-hearted guys in the paddock, which is why he builds up huge fan bases wherever he goes. When he first visited his new team, he said 'I am Yukio, fast Japanese rider. You will need many fairings as I crash lots!'

    Yukio says;

    ”I am very happy to be competing in the Superbike World Championship - the most prestigious race series for production-based bikes. Above all, I feel very happy and lucky to be in the Alstare team led by Mr Francis Batta. His team is very professional, full of experience and is always one of the strongest in the paddock. I am looking forward to working with them and feel sure that my previous Suzuki experience will be to the team’s advantage. I am also very excited about riding the 2005 Suzuki GSX-R1000. The GSX-R1000 has always been a highly competitive, and I believe that the all-new 2005 model will be more competitive then ever and, with it, I feel sure I can fulfill the expectations of Team Alstare and all the fans who support me. My team mate, Troy-san, won the Superbike World Championship in 1996 and he is a great rider and fierce competitor. I will do my best to match his ability, but my goal is to beat him and bring the world title to Alstare!
