With its impressive-looking in-line 4-cylinder engine, timeless styling and wealth of advanced engine and chassis technology, the Yamaha XJR1300 is regarded by many as the definitive large-capacity air-cooled muscle bike. For 2007 this legendary model benefits from a wide range of improvements to the engine and chassis, and this process of gradual evolution has resulted in a stronger and better-looking XJR1300. Rather than wholesale change, this handsome muscle bike has undergone a process of careful fine-tuning which has been focused on the intake and exhaust, riding position and front and rear suspension systems. Yamaha's program of ongoing development of this class-leading machine has ensured that the much-loved character of the XJR1300 remains the same, while at the same time the engine and chassis performance have been significantly refined.

New fuel injection system

The XJR1300's new fuel injection system has the same design as the sub-throttle system featured on the 2004 model YZF-R1, and offers high levels of intake control. The 12-hole 2-directional injector is controlled by the ECU which monitors rpm and throttle opening in order to achieve optimum intake efficiency, and this new fuel injection system plays a key role in achieving the increased performance of the 2007 XJR1300.

Optimised camshaft profile

To accommodate the new fuel injection system the 2007 XJR1300 runs with a new intake camshaft which gives revised intake valve lift, and the overlap range of the intake and exhaust valves has also been optimised to give greater intake efficiency.

New 4-2-1 exhaust system

One of the most visible changes for 2007 is the new 4-2-1 exhaust system which has an extremely high quality finish to underline the XJR1300's enhanced performance and style. The size and length of the pipes and expansion chamber are carefully designed to optimise power output, and the 2007 model achieves a higher level of maximum torque at only 6,000 rpm, a full 500 rpm lower than the 2006 machine.

Adoption of EXUP

A compact version of Yamaha's famous torque-boosting EXUP valve is used on the 2007 XJR1300. By using rpm and gear position data to control precisely the flow of exhaust gases, this proven system helps to improve torque characteristics.

3-way catalyser with oxygen sensor and air induction system

A new 3-way honeycomb catalyser coated in platinum and rhodium reduces exhaust emissions to well below EU3 levels, and for more effective operation of the catalyser an oxygen sensor is also fitted. The catalyser is in three parts - two in the mid-section of the exhaust where there are two pipes, and another one in the silencer. In addition, a solenoid-controlled air induction system is also fitted, and this ensures even more complete combustion of any unburnt hydrocarbons present in the exhaust system.

New front suspension settings

To match the new sportier engine character the front suspension settings on the large-diameter front forks have been revised. The 2006 XJR1300's 43mm diameter forks are well-known for their smooth operation, and the changes for 2007 are designed to enhance the plush suspension action and the light handling feel, while also reducing nosedive during braking.

÷hlins rear shocks with special settings

The 2007 model is equipped with a pair of the latest high-specification ÷hlins rear shocks which are designed to offer a more linear and direct feel. In particular, these new shocks offer optimised rebound and compression damping characteristics which help to reduce rear end 'squat' during acceleration, to give improved traction and enhanced handling performance. These latest ÷hlins shocks also feature a new preload adjuster mechanism which ensures easier and more accurate adjustments.

Sportier and more comfortable riding position

A new seat design offers an optimum balance of sportiness and comfort, and incorporates specially-developed foam with an idealised balance of viscosity and flexibility. The seating position has been moved slightly to the rear, while the handlebar position is moved marginally forwards, and these changes create a sportier and more comfortable riding position.

Other changes

The 2007 XJR1300 also benefits from dual circular LED tail lights, internal illumination for the instruments, clear flasher lenses, redesigned side covers and oval mirrors.
