25/01/04 - Round 4 ACU British Supermoto Championships 3 Sisters, Wigan - 16th May 2004

Pembrey Result | Brands Hatch Result | Croft Result | Lydden Hill Result | Lydd Result | Llandow Result

19-year-old Christian Iddon put on a superb performance at the 4th round of the British Supermoto Championships at 3 Sisters at the weekend. Taking three wins from the possible four Christian was in fantastic form throughout.

Another double win in the highly competitive 450 Class proved that the nifty 450 Husqvarna is an extremely competitive piece of machinery and Christian looked comfortable and confident as he powered it home. On the fast and twisty track Christian was on a mission from that start and was eager to gain some more victories in the series. Glorious sunshine greeted the riders as they lined up on the grid and in front of an impressive crowd Christian dominated and took the victory from KTM's Matt Winstanley in race one, and Honda's Leighton Haigh in the second race.

Much to the crowd delight Christian put on an entertaining performance in the first leg of the Open Class race, providing some impressive power sliding displays and showing the spectators what Supermoto is all about Christian took yet another win. Unfortunately Christian was excluded from the first race, after it was claimed he was late to enter the starting area, this has now been appealed to at the ACU and Husky Sport await the results from the appeal. KTM's Ady Smith was granted the first race win.

More complications in race two and Iddon was forced to start from the back of the grid. Having to fight his way through the aggressive pack Iddon proved to riders and spectators why he is the current British Champion. Setting fastest lap after fastest lap Iddon was making easy work of his fellow rivals and was quickly moving towards the front of the field.

It wasn't long before Iddon had eventual race winner Matt Winstanley in his sights and began to hunt him down. Sadly it wasn't to be, as hard as he fought there was not enough time for the youngster to make grounds on Winstanley. Taking an amazing second place in the race he was only 1.1 seconds behind the race winner, a fantastic display of riding skills by the Husky Sport rider.

Commenting Christian said 'It's been a mixed day, obviously doing the double in the 450 race was fantastic. 3 Sisters is without doubt one of my favourite tracks and I really got the grips with it this weekend. It really suited the bike and everything has worked out reasonably well for me. I have to wait now to find out the results of the appeal and see what happens regarding the overall points situation. I am still lying second in both the 450 and Open Class so I can't complain. I'm looking forward to going to Ireland in a few weeks time.'

Jay Smith also had a great weekend and finally gained his true form. Gaining a fine 5th and 3rd place in the Open Class races Jay was extremely happy with his riding saying 'I've suffered with a number of different problems over the last few meetings, from illness to crashes things just haven't gone my way. Finally I've had a good weekend and I'm very happy with the way things have gone. They were both tough races and you really had to remain focused. Hopefully my bad luck for this season is over and I'll start getting more results like this.'
