    Today at the Ilmor Engineering factory in Northampton Illien and Managing Director Steve Miller announced that the Ilmor GP race team will be slimmed down to a 'skeleton' crew focusing on the continued development of the engine - as a consequence many of the original Ilmor GP team personnel will be released from their contracts from the end of May 2007 onwards and will be free to pursue other opportunities.     Dani Pedrosa went this morning to the Instituto Dexeus to undergo a new medical test after the crash he had yesterday during the Grand Prix of Turkey, where he was knocked down on the first lap of the race. The reason for these tests was dismissing any possible fracture and starting the respective recovery process in the face of the next round of the world championship, to be held in China in two weeks time.     Dougie Lampkin today took another fourth place on the second of the two days of competition in Guatemala. However, the result did not belie the effort and performance from the Englishman, who narrowly missed out on a podium position with a final score tied with that of his team mate Takahisa Fujinami, but losing out on the tie break, thanks to having one less clean than the Japanese rider.     Dougie Lampkin took fourth place in the first of the two days of competition in La Antigua, Guatemala after a day of close competition held in searing temperatures and sweltering humidity. Like many of the riders, he found the going tough. The new event to the calendar was made up of sections winding up and down river-beds at the Autodromo las Volcanes, one hundred kilometres south of Guatemala City. After a close first lap, Dougie was unable to make roads into Adam Raga's advantage for third place and so finished the first day in fourth spot. Read more.....

    After a long break, the 2007 Motorcycling World Championship returns to activity this weekend in Istanbul on the occasion of the Grand Prix of Turkey, third scoring round of the season. After the races in Qatar and Spain, this will be the first time the Repsol Honda Team riders Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa, as well as their MotoGP mates will face a circuit on which they haven't tested during the 2007 preseason, meaning that they have no references at all with the new 800cc Honda RC212V.     The enchanting city of Istanbul opens its gates to the MotoGP World Championship for the third time next weekend as the new 800cc era enters a third chapter shrouded in mystery.     A wide ranging group of organisations from all walks of life, which includes the Motor Cycle Industry Association, the National Farmers Union, the Agricultural Engineers Association, the RAC Foundation, the Land Access and Recreational Association, the riders groups MAG and BMF and the Auto Cycle Union have come together in a coalition to lobby against a Parliamentary Private Members Bill which seeks to force all off road motorcycles and quadricycles to be registered and carry number plates.     Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) passed the first test since his Donington crash with flying colours, the Australian bouncing back from injuries received a fortnight ago to set the quickest time in both free practice and qualifying at Valencia. After being given the OK to ride by circuit medics late yesterday afternoon, Bayliss eased himself back into the swing of things in the morning with fastest time and then set a new circuit best lap in the afternoon with a time of 1m34.599s, half-a-second quicker than Neil Hodgson's 2003 record.     Dougie Lampkin started his 2007 World outdoor assault with a battling third place at the opening Grand Prix of the new season held in Mancha Real, Spain earlier today. Lampkin made a strong challenge for his 100th World win and actually led the trial in the early stages as he looked very much at home in the wet and slippery conditions. However his fight faded during the second lap, and in the end Dougie had to defeat his Japanese team mate Fujinami on a most cleans tie break to hold on to a well deserved third place. Read more.....
