    A splendid double win for Régis Laconi thrilled a large Santamonica circuit crowd today and re-launched the Ducati Xerox Team rider's ambitions in this year's championship. At the half-way point of the season, Laconi has now closed the gap on leader Troy Corser (Suzuki) to 92 points with six rounds left. In a sweltering Misano (air temperature hovering around 32° and track 53°), the French rider scored two dominant wins, finishing twice on the top of the podium together with Australians Chris Vermeulen (Honda) and Corser (Suzuki) in that order.     Valentino Rossi became the first Yamaha rider ever to win five consecutive premier-class races after another authoritarian performance in the 75th anniversary Gauloises Dutch TT, where he was joined on the podium by his Gauloises Yamaha team-mate Colin Edwards. Rossi did not get the best of starts from pole position but worked his way up from fifth after the first lap to take the lead by the midway stage, taking over from Marco Melandri (Honda) on lap ten and gradually opening out a crucial advantage.     Ryuichi Kiyonari continued his domination of qualifying for the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill by taking his second pole position of the season.     Tomorrow's two races in round six of the World Superbike Championship at a sweltering Misano Adriatico (air 33°/track 52°) promise sparks all the way as the Ducati Xerox Team's Régis Laconi starts from the front row of the grid after an exciting Superpole session. The Frenchman will be surrounded by three Australians at the start, with Troy Corser (Suzuki) and Chris Vermeulen (Honda) just a couple of tenths quicker and Karl Muggeridge one place behind. The other Ducati Xerox Team rider James Toseland set seventh quickest time in Superpole and will start from row two, behind Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki) and Pierfrancesco Chili (Honda), who celebrates his 250th World Superbike race tomorrow.     A huge high-side during qualifying at Croft prematurely ended Sendo Superbike rider Jon Kirkham's weekend with injuries sustained preventing him from making the annual journey north to Knockhill. Read more.....

    Gauloises Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi will start the seventh round of the MotoGP World Championship from the front of the grid as he chases his sixth victory of the season at the 75th anniversary Dutch TT tomorrow. Rossi took pole position with his final lap of this afternoon's qualifying session, clocking a time of 1'58.936 to hold off the challenge of Sete Gibernau (Honda) and Marco Melandri (Honda), who complete the front row.     Ducati Xerox Team riders Régis Laconi and James Toseland were on the pace in today's opening qualifying session in sweltering heat at Misano (air 30°/track 49°).     Gauloises Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi signalled his intentions to repeat last season's Dutch TT victory at Assen with a dominant performance on the opening day of this year's 75th anniversary of the legendary event. The reigning World Champion set the fastest time in the first free practice session this morning, posting a benchmark lap of 2'01.003 at the recently remodelled track, only bettered in the afternoon by himself and a last-gasp effort from Loris Capirossi (Ducati), who tops the overnight time sheets after clocking a time of 2'00.757 on his final lap.     Airwaves Ducati were pleased with the progress made during a condensed test at Donington Park which concluded today. Having initially planned a two day test at the Derbyshire circuit, the team were forced to pack all their testing into a solitary afternoon, with the aftermath of a pop festival allowing no track action on Tuesday and blustery wind and rain further frustrating the team this morning. Riders Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla were eventually able to complete 81 and 79 laps respectively, finishing with lap times of 1.32:80s and 1.32:60s. Read more.....

The World Champion was passed by a handful of riders from pole position but fought his way aggressively through the pack to lead the way at the end of the first lap. Chased by Marco Melandri, Sete Gibernau and Max Biaggi (all Honda) in the opening stages, Rossi set an electric pace but was unable to shake off his pursuers. He was passed by Melandri on the 11th lap as he began to struggle with front-end problems. Read more.....

    Gauloises Yamaha Team riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards are confident of mounting a strong challenge in tomorrow's Catalunya Grand Prix despite suffering unexpected setbacks in this afternoon's single qualifying session, which limited them to third and seventh place respectively on the starting grid. Both riders set a fast and consistent race pace throughout the day but, in the chase for a quick one-off lap time, Rossi lost time trying a tyre that did not work for him whilst Edwards was held up by slower riders on a lap that would have almost certainly put him on the front row of the grid.     Experienced road racer Ian Lougher brought the curtain down on his 2005 Isle of Man TT campaign with a fantastic podium finish in the ultra-competitive Strand Shopping Centre Senior TT race. The Welshman finished runner-up in this morning's six-lap event aboard the Team DMRR Honda Racing CBR1000RR Fireblade, while his team-mate Richard Britton secured fifth position. Read more.....

    Gauloises Yamaha Team rider Colin Edwards returned to the top of the time sheets with an encouraging display on the opening day of the Catalunya Grand Prix today. Both Edwards and his team-mate, Valentino Rossi, again took advantage of the excellent base set-up they have found in recent tests with the Yamaha YZR-M1 machine, setting the pace in this morning's opening free practice session with the first and second fastest times respectively. As temperatures rose in the afternoon by 10ºC, with 34ºC recorded on the recently-laid track surface, Edwards was again on the pace and was only denied the fastest time of the day by a late raid from Marco Melandri (Honda) and Makoto Tamada (Honda, 1'43.408), with Melandri clocking the fastest lap in a time of 1'43.317.     Motorcycle registration figures from the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) show that the overall market continues to reflect the figures seen last year. Although the whole market was down 3% on May 2004, this is a reflection of trends in the car industry, who experienced a similar drop in the market too. Read more.....

    The Sidecar Race B today was one of the most exiting events of the 2005 TT. Klaus Klaffenböck and Christian Parzer finished 8th in Sidecar Race A and now they aimed to improve their result in the second heat. With an average speed of 105,60 m/h (168,96) they did their first lap in 21:26.2 and were riding on position 10. In lap 2 Klaffi and Christian were even faster: 21:06.8, 107.21 m/h (171,5 km/h).     Ducati Austin's Eric Bostrom fought for the podium on Sunday at Elkhart Lake Wisconsin, finishing just short of a top 3 position as he came home fourth on his Ducati 999. Bostrom was part of a three rider scrap for second but caught some bad breaks with lapped traffic and was unable to make a last lap pass for position on Road America's long straight as he had planned.     Neil Hodgson of the Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin team won his first-ever AMA Superbike race in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday. Despite treacherous conditions, the Isle of Man resident put in a passionate ride and won a shortened race by 27 seconds on his Ducati 999. The former British and World Superbike champion raced at an incredible pace in the rain but still managed to keep his machine upright as other riders fell into the Road America gravel traps.     Gauloises Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi delighted his army of fans at the Mugello circuit in Italy today with a stunning final lap that saw him seal a new pole position record and the front slot on the grid for tomorrow's fifth round of the MotoGP World Championship. The reigning World Champion was in second place behind Sete Gibernau (Honda, 1'49.361) with just two minutes remaining but made a last-gasp tyre change before returning to the track and clocking a time of 1'49.223 at the chequered flag.     Today's opening race at the 2005 Isle of Man TT has been cancelled following another day of unpredictable weather conditions.     The Gauloises Yamaha Team's challenge for success at the Italian Grand Prix began with a day of hard work at Mugello today as riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards completed valuable set-up work with their YZR-M1 machines. Following on from successful tests with the base setting of the machines at Le Mans after the last round, the riders quickly found their feet today and began making minor refinements to suit the fast and flowing Mugello circuit.     Eleven weeks after badly breaking his leg, 24-year-old Richard Keohane will make a return to racing next weekend, 11th and 12th June at Croix en Ternois, France, in the BMCRC 600 Supersport Class onboard his tuned Honda CBR600RR. After his fantastic debut win in the first race of the series back in March, his second race was troubled with disaster. A high-side on the exit to Russell's Chicane at Snetterton resulted in the Fareham based rider breaking his Tibia and Fibula just above the ankle on his right leg, an extremely similar injury sustained by reigning British Superbike Champion John Reynolds just a few weeks before.
