    A second day of testing at Le Mans proved beneficial for Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa on Tuesday as the Repsol Honda Team took advantage of some dry track time at the scene of Sunday's Grand Prix of France. Hayden resumed his intensive work rate, putting in 83 laps of the 4.180km (2.597-mile) Le Mans circuit as he made further adjustments to the chassis set-up of his RC212V. Though still in some discomfort from the torn cartilage between his ribs the World Champion sustained during his high speed fall in Sunday's race, the tough American able to record a highly respectable lap time of 1m 34.86s.     Colin Edwards took his debut MotoGP pole and Yamaha's fourth of the season at Le Mans today after a close Qualifying session ahead of tomorrow's French Grand Prix. The 33-year-old Texan's achievement was made all the more impressive as it followed a crash in this morning's practice session, when his M1 high-sided and he fell hard into the gravel trap at turn two. His Fiat Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi was also a front-row contender but was edged out in the closing seconds and will start from fourth tomorrow, the first time this season that he starts off the front-row.     After a rather light start of the season with several races separated in time and most of them far from Europe, time has come to change the pace: the Motorcycling World Championship gets ready for an intense schedule.     Fiat Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi fought a race-long battle with Casey Stoner during the Grand Prix of China today, the pair providing a thrilling spectacle until the 16th lap when Rossi was forced to concede victory to the Australian after a small mistake. Despite starting from the front row alongside pole-sitter Rossi, Colin Edwards had a less successful day as he suffered tyre problems from the start and dropped steadily down the order, eventually finishing a disappointing 11th.     An incredible flying lap from Valentino Rossi saw the Fiat Yamaha Team rider take his third pole of the season in China this afternoon, the Italian bettering last year's pole time by more than half a second with a perfect lap around the 5.2km Shanghai International Circuit.     A weekend of close racing beckons at the Grand Prix of China as the first day of practice finished with the top fourteen MotoGP riders separated by less than a second in Shanghai today.
